Teaching: Dr. Allgood, promoted to Senior Instructor, has been teaching pre- and in-service teachers in critical multicultural education courses for two decades. Teaching is her passion and priority. She is the recipient of two prestigious university awards for outstanding teaching: “Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Undergraduates” and “Exceptional Faculty” achievement award - MacArthur campus. Research: Dr. Allgood’s research spans the areas of multicultural teacher education, religion in public schools, and genocide studies. Her recent publications include a book chapter, Faithism in the Public School: What Educators Must Know to Avoid Religious Bias; a peer-reviewed article in a national journal: Faith and Freedom of Religion in U.S. Public Schools: Issues and Challenges Facing Teachers; and a mixed-methods research study to ascertain effectiveness of a Genocide Studies Unit: Preparing pre-service teachers to implement genocide studies in elementary classrooms. Presentations: She introduced her curriculum model and research on the effect that Genocide education has on preservice teachers’ cognitive and affective abilities to teach controversial content at a recent Florida Council for the Social Studies conference. Her presentations at the National Association for Multicultural Education include “Deterring Prejudice in Schools through Curriculum and Process Models”, “Preparing Multiculturally Literate Teachers” and Faith, Freedom, and First Amendment in Public Schools. A paper she co-authored, “Preparing Culturally Responsive Teachers” was presented at the American Educational Research Association conference. Prior to her affiliation with FAU she was the Regional/Education Director for the Anti-Defamation League where she launched an extensive anti-bias educational initiative throughout Palm Beach and Martin counties.
